The Economics of Pragmatism vs. the Crusade to Impose Ideology
Capitalism is ultimately pragmatic — low taxation, low regulation, and freedom for the real world to manifest. Socialism is always ideological. The socialist’s end goal is always the creation of a “new and better world.” When reality intrudes upon those goals, the socialist, from Robespierre to Hugo Chavez, lashes out and devotes their energies to eliminating opposition. Free markets are for a diverse citizenry to pursue diverse interests. Socialism is a plaything of philosophers with chips in their shoulder.
